A Miraculously Peaceful Holiday

Family_Christmas_Celebration_FAN2019870A lovely, relaxed day.   It’s been a while. We smiled, we chatted, we celebrated. The family had started over.  All was calm, all was bright.

When you have six people, four of them somewhat-touchy teens, along with two jaded parents, it’s not easy getting everyone on the same page at the same time. But it happened. We hit “restart” and refused6208084 to bring up the past as ammunition.

Easier said than done.

My own survival technique when pressed: smile… and walk away. Deep breaths.

A candlelight service, carols, cookies. A delicious dinner, desperately-needed down time, kids playing quietly (alright, not so quietly) together. The Christmas narrative read from the stock-footage-multi-generation-family-walking-on-winter-beach-with-dogBible, toasts with sparkling grapejuice, thoughtful gifts given. One child and one adult rumored to have passed out at different times, napping in a little nook here or there.  A long walk with the dogs who are always sweet.

It felt good to be able to relax in my own home. No tension, no terse words. Peace, sweet peace. Pleasantness.

Everyone, for the most part, trying.

Delightful. Refreshing. Renewing.

I would recommend it. Husbands and wives, parents and children, bosses and employees. Hit the restart button, and begin again. It worked for us.
