Drop the Baggage

too-much-baggageHey! There’s a new year coming— wipe the slate clean, try, try again, get up and go, make those dreams come true! But before you do, you, here’s a tip: drop the baggage, just drop it. As a matter of fact, dump it— it’s only going to hold you back.

I remember a song that was made popular by the Impressions, an R&B/Soul group in 1965. I think I heard it the first time in the 1990s or so and loved the lyrics, the chorus of which goes like this:

People get ready, there’s a train a comin’letting go of baggage
You don’t need no baggage, you just get on board
All you need is faith, to hear the diesels hummin’
Don’t need no ticket, you just thank the Lord.

We don’t need any ticket, and we don’t need any baggage of the past. I realize that a lot of folks consider other people baggage, but I don’t. Baggage, to me, means old beliefs or behaviors that hold us back, that don’t encourage us to be our personal best.

thThe train of the new year is about to leave the station. If you want to hop onboard to a new and exciting destination, you’ll have to leave the heavy bags behind.

So just do it.

Don’t you feel lighter already?
