Gen. Petraeus (Betray-us) & His Wife

Alright, I’m a woman and my heart goes out to her.  Holly Petraeus, spurned wife, that is.   (My heart would go out to him if she were sneaking around and cheating on him, too.  Face it:  I’m an equal-opportunity shoulder-to-cry-on.)

With Gen. Petraeus’ indiscretions hitting the fan over the past month, it really irks me that some have taken the view that it’s somehow her fault.  She “let herself go”.

Alright, I hear you.  As somebody who has been married for well over 30 years, it’s true that the old grey goose just ain’t what she used to be.  Time changes things.  Yes, we could all use a makeover from time to time, but that justifies nothing.

Being plunked down in remote battlefields justifies nothing.  Being touted as a “great leader” by adoring young men and women justifies nothing.  Being head of the CIA means nothing, because, trust me, your wife will find out sooner or later, no matter how clandestine and undercover you may think you are.

Hiding under a bedsheet is not going to cover your popah on this one.

But it begs the question.  While the wife is caring for the homefront, working, taking care of the children, acting as his representative when troops return home, holding everything together while he jets here and there, should she make time “for herself”?  You know, hit the gym, get the hair cut and colored, wear contacts and a stylish wardrobe?

I don’t know.  I just don’t know.  He’s no glamour guy himself.

Petraeus may have married her because her father was the superintendent of West Point, and he sought upward mobility.  She may not have figured prominently in the equation from the very beginning.  Who knows?

I believe in taking care of oneself, but that’s easier said than done.  There are only so many hours in the day.  Here’s a guy being touted for his “leadership qualities” who’s cheating on his wife.

Take care of your mate.  Take care of yourself.  The two go hand-in-hand.

I wish these women who are in the public eye and well known either by themselves or through their husbands would make a statement. I would suggest something like this, ” I’ve been to the bank and everything is now in my name. And let the son of a (you know what) come home…I have the knife sharpened.”

Lololol… I know, I know, Sybil. I think they’re so blindsided that they feel to “react” would be tantamount to admitting that they’ve been hurt by someone who obviously was not thinking at all about them…. At a time like this, to have millions watching-! Again, not to blame the ladies at all, but maybe if the husband knew they would react strongly and publicly, he wouldn’t do it? But public life brings all of its own issues, where you’ve been groomed for years to not say anything strong or controversial lest it reflect on you or your family. What a Catch-22.
