How to Move Forward in Life

moving-forward2“I have no idea where we are…” I remarked to my companion.

“Corner of Congress and State,” the distinguished gentleman in suit and tie replied, overhearing me and nodding toward the street signs.

“Yes, I can see that,” I acknowledged, adding, “it’s more like how to get to where we are going, instead of where we are….”

Obviously, he worked in the Financial District and knew his way around town. In less than 10 seconds, he had us headed in the right direction. I learned the value of being specific. It wasn’t that we didn’t know where we were.

Many of us, if we’re honest (and that’s a biggie for some), understand their present predicament. The go_forwardissue is more likely how to get out of it.  How to move forward in life.

And if you think it has to do with geography, simply a new location for home, work or leisure, you’re generally trying to sidestep the real issue in the mirror.

Ask specific questions and ask someone who knows.

move-forwardDon’t ask a divorced friend about how to have a long-lasting relationship, even though hindsight may be helpful, it’s certainly not 20/20 vision as some would claim. Don’t ask a struggling friend how to move out of debt. Don’t ask an unhealthy friend which healthy habits you might build into your routine.  Don’t ask someone with limited education how you should obtain further training in life.

It just doesn’t make sense. Birds of a feather flock together. Ensure that you’re flying high with those headed in the right direction.
