In One Ear….

I have fun friends.  They can relate.  They can identify.

When Benedetto was telling yet another of his stories, one of my acquaintances shook her head, only imagining how I kept my wits.  She came to her own conclusion.

“In one ear, and out the other,” she summed up, as she heard of the pandemonium of a generally reserved and under-control household, but pushed to the limit by those of limited intellectual faculties and even further limited English.

And we’re not even drawing Benedetto into the equation.

This lady, who makes all sorts of exotic, beaded, Native American-like earrings, decided to craft a pair just for me.  Amongst the beads were woven the words, “In” and “Out”.

“Alexandra,” she confided, “just let it go in one ear, and out the other,” she patted me on the shoulder, understandingly.

“Let it all go by,” she nodded.

Talk about perceptive.

So now, on those days, when no matter what they say is beyond the realm of rationality, no matter how many times they try to “explain” and tell me perfectly good reasons for the craziest of surmisings or situations, I just nod my head, earrings dangling as shields before my astounded ears.

In one ear, and out the other.

And to make sure the earrings are ready at a moment’s notice, I put them in a rather conspicuous perch, ready to grab and go, when anyone’s words seek to overwhelm me.  Earplugs could work, as well, but these are cuter.

OMG, too funny! I think I really need these for my oldest who never listens as he just lets any instructions go in one ear and out the other. She should put those up on Etsy.
