Jesus the Palestinian???

crWell, it turns out that the crowds did not turn out in Bethlehem to celebrate this Christmas Eve. Often known back in the day for international choirs and busloads of pilgrims from around the world, the politicization of Palestine simply turns people off.

If memory serves me correctly, it was Christmas of 2013 when Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas called Jesus “a Palestinian messenger”.

Jesus was not a Palestinian. Jesus was a Jewish rabbi, born into a Jewish setting. No such place as “Palestine” even existed.

It was not until the Third Jewish-Roman Revolt, the Bar Kokhba Revolt of 132-136 AD, that Romecr clamped down on the region to a more extreme extent. The Roman Emperor Hadrian determined to wipe out Judea once and for all, selling Jews into slavery and changing the name to Palestina after the ancient Philistines.

A full century after Jesus.

So please don’t be saying that Jesus was a Palestinian. And please don’t be saying that Muslims have any interest in Jerusalem which is never mentioned once in the Koran. It has never been any type of Arab capital, not once in history, whereas Jerusalem was considered the capital of the Jewish homeland since circa 1000 BC with King David.

Here’s hoping that most people can read a basic (and reliable) recounting of history and get the drift that Jerusalem remains linked to the Jewish people.
