Monday Mottoes – #114

sleep2I am very tired. Very, very tired. It stems from a number of realities, in my mind. A quick get-away that took many more hours of planning on my part to coordinate clothes, schedules, travel than the hours of the trip itself. We arrive home exhausted and rush immediately to a funeral of a dear, older friend. On top of that, I have research papers of almost 100 pages with due dates approaching like a high tide on a narrow shoreline.RACCOON

The raccoon has come back to roost in the attic above my bed. He maybe a possum or a baby bear by the sound of his heavy body dragging across the joists. He is clawing, thrashing and ripping out insulation. I bang on the ceiling and it does nothing. He sounds like he’ll be dropping through one of the recessed lights as he scratches them from the other side.

man_sleepingI haven’t slept in days.

Benedetto passes out, reading in his overstuffed chair, and never seems to be present for the nocturnal visitations. At best, he agrees to toss some moth balls into the crawl space in hopes that the fumes bother the creatures. Instead, they bother me and turn the uninvited guests upstairs into wild banshees.

Which brings us to today’s motto:woods

“The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep.” ~Robert Frost

Miles to go. Lots to do. Wish I could sleep. When I’m awake, I feel like sleeping, because during the night, I have not slept. When I try to sleep, I’m awakened.

But enough about me.

Brain cells are said to reorganize and repair during sleep. Have some impending decisions, large or small? Get some sleep first. Which is what I’m going to do right now.

Happy Monday, everyone!
