Monday Mottoes – #120

Wood_SnowflakeOur teens like to make gifts for the elderly, for adult singles, for people that others may have forgotten. Usually, they’re grandmotherly types who are so happy and blessed that someone else is thinking of them. Their own families may live far away.

For the most part, they are not men, but I’m thinking now of one guy who might be in his late 40s. Whenever we see him, he’s generally wearing the same outfit which appears as though it hasn’t been washed in a while. Same with his long, stringy hair. speckled-wood-He barely speaks more than a word or two and appears to be a bit slow, yet, whenever we see him, we greet him by name and his face lights up.

I asked the kids if they would like to include him in their gift-making/gift-giving operation. All expressed enthusiasm.

Deer-Head-OrnamentWe buy simple wooden ornaments that our four paint, whether for someone’s Christmas tree, or just a wintertime decoration to put in a window, kitchen, or office. It might be a snowflake, star, moose, reindeer and more.

They end up giving the guy a snowman, “From our family to you!” in a gift bag with tissue paper. I have a feeling this may be the only present he has ever received. His smile spreads from ear-to-ear which brings us to today’s motto:

“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” ~Anonymouschristmas

And I would add: if you haven’t yet recognized your particular gift, focus on being a giving person in general. You will grow into your true niche while others are blessed.

Happy Monday, everyone!
