Monday Mottoes – #132
With a house full of mid-to-late teens, we discuss their futures a lot. How to choose a career. Finding a direction in life. Not saying that it does any discernible good for now, but we try. As parents, our goal remains getting them excited about something, anything, attempting to start that proverbial ship moving so that it might be steered.
We pray with them and for them. We show them how to research various professions, if there will be a need for that industry in 10-20-30 years from now. We take aptitude tests. We encourage them to speak with others in the same field.
What do you enjoy doing? Nothing. What could you see yourself doing? Nothing. What do you think your personality would fit with? Nothing. What kind of issues in life really stir you? Nothing. What could you see yourself NOT doing? Who knows.
Benedetto and I speak of discovery, rather than decision. We feel that, in some ways, our lives are gifts, they are not our own. Discovering God’s plan and purpose can help. We are here for reasons greater than our own. No two people on Planet Earth are exactly alike… and there’s a reason for that.
Which brings us to today’s motto:
I like that. It’s simple and straightforward. Maybe not to a 17-year-old who doesn’t yet know what feels unnatural since most everything is new in life, however, it’s a start.
What feels right? What gets you excited to wake up each day? Where do some of your natural or cultivated talents lie?
There is a road map to the future spread before you. Follow it today.
Happy Monday, everyone!
