Monday Mottoes – #151
I’m not referring to a physical book, an e-book will do, also. It’s reading in general. It has gone the way of the dinosaurs.
Audio books are great, as well. During that long drive, you could be receiving an infusion of ideas and insights.
Free online e-books exist. There are libraries to check out books. You can buy second-hand volumes at a used bookstore. Money, even in this economy, should not be an obstacle.
This in from statisticbrain.com, compiled during July 2014:
Total percentage of U.S. adults who are unable to read an 8th grade level book: 50%.
Total percent of U.S. high school graduates who will never read a book after high school: 33%.
Total percentage of college students who will never read another book after they graduate: 42%.
Total percentage of U.S. families who did not buy a book this year: 80%.
Which leads us to today’s quote:
“This will never be a civilized country until we spend more money on books than we do on chewing gum.”
Hold a book, hug a book, read a book. It will do all of us a world of good.
Happy Monday, everyone!
