Monday Mottoes – #153

Olympic Training Center - Classroom Tour 017In light of the Rio Olympics, I felt led to take today’s inspirational quote from a former competitor. After all, Olympians know about winning in life and what it takes to achieve against incredible odds. The athletes must possess motivation, determination and stamina.

Many of them rise long before dawn to gain access to playing fields, swimming pools, practice gyms and skating rinks. They often balance sleep, school or work and caloric intakes. It costs big bucks to find trainers and coaches and private lessons. And at the end of the day, it might or might not be worth it, depending on whether the athlete wins well enough to be truly outstanding in the sport and win titles or endorsements.

However, the fact of simply competing sets a person apart. Not everyone is willing to put himself out there in such a heartvulnerable manner. Which leads us to today’s motto:

“Each one of us has a fire in our heart for something. It’s our goal in life to find it and keep it lit.” Mary Lou Retton, Olympic gymnast

What is that task, or goal, or mission that gets you out of bed in the morning? What fires up your imagination and keeps you going in life? What would you be willing to do whether or not you were paid for it?

Think of that as your Olympic torch, your raison d’être, your purpose to be held high as a guiding light. Easy to say, “Follow your dream”, but “Fan your fire and keep it burning bright” has even more of a ring.

Happy Monday, everyone!
