Monday Mottoes – #155

persistence“I think I can, I think I can,” said the Little Engine That Could.

Perhaps you remember something from your childhood echoing that 1963 inspirational cartoon (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yx9xO98kcBU). Nowadays, cartoons seem to have different messages, yet that encouraging word will never grow old.

Today, so many give up after engaging in any initial exertion. Their tenacity, determination and staying power have slipped away with the sands of time. Education, careers, relationships and health suffer.

Which brings us to today’s quote:

“Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful menpersistence with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘Press On’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” ~Calvin Coolidge, 30th president of US (1872 – 1933)

persistence2Persistence might not solve every problem, but it solves a whole lot of problems. Stick with it. Don’t give up. Forget about throwing in the towel. As he mentioned, all of the talent and education matters little if there is indifference, idleness and lethargy.

Today, let’s get some endurance, stamina and resolution going.

Happy Monday, everyone!
