Monday Mottoes – #166
It’s Thanksgiving week and most of us become mindful. Different approaches surface at the dinner table on this holiday: some bow their head in prayer, some utter aloud what makes them thankful, some have a moment of silence. Yet, no matter what the faith tradition, or lack thereof, the majority of Americans feel that it’s good to be thankful.
I’ve never been of the opinion that one needs to suffer tragedy in order to be truly thankful. You know, the old “You never know how good you have it until it’s taken away” point of view. Maybe it’s the fact that I came from an immigrant family, or that we had a faith-filled upbringing.
“For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
Pull yourself up by the bootstraps. Do all you can. But recognize that when you can’t, God can. He is a very present help in trouble: financial, health, spiritual, emotional, family & relationships. No matter how big the problem, He is greater. And willing to help.
Now that’s something for which we can give thanks!
Happy Monday, everyone!
