Monday Mottoes – #167

sow3The end of the year is upon us. One more month and 2016 will be a thing of the past. What have we accomplished? What’s yet to be done?

Maybe you’ve “learned from the past” and not even made any goals. Or perhaps the list of hopes and dreams has remained that: a fairy tale of wishes crumpled up and kicked to the curb long ago. You’ve outgrown such stuff.

You don’t believe in Santa Claus, right? Why believe that you have any charge over your own destiny?

I believe in God and that He has control over my destiny. I mean, I can’t make the sun shine on a cloudy day. But, I also believe that each of us can take charge of a large part of our destiny that He has entrusted to us. We have the privilege and the responsibility to make the right decisions and to be proactive in life.

To some degree, we all wish we could sit on the couch and eat chocolate cream pie and make a million dollars asow day. When it doesn’t happen, we might develop a victim mentality. We often want BIG results for little effort… and then tell everyone how this sales strategy, or exercise plan, or parenting approach doesn’t really work.

Which brings us to today’s motto:

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” ~Galatians 6:7 (The Bible)

In non-religious circles, that verse has been shortened to: A man reaps what he sows.

In other words, to the same degree that you expend effort, you’re going to be getting results. Half-hearted attempts lead to half-baked outcomes. Take hard action, move out of dreamy land and make those dreams a reality by consistent, steady steps.

sow2You know me, I’m going to give it to you straight: nothing is going to be handed to you in life. Well, maybe a few things. However, not much in the way of lasting results will ever chase down those who cannot see the value in taking responsibility for their own success.

If you hope to snag a super job, a great spouse, move into a new level of health and fitness, or surround yourself with top-drawer friends, you will have to make yourself desirable. Yep, become attractive to a potential employer, mate, institution of higher learning or circle of movers and shakers.  Be the best you can be and don’t settle for any less.

Start sowing good seed— helping someone else with their job search, giving them a good recommendation,man_reaps setting up some dates for others, or being a sounding board to a friend in need. Whatever you sow, you’re going to reap– and the year isn’t over, yet!

Happy Monday, everyone!
