Monday Mottoes – #214

hard_workI have an ongoing discussion both with my children as well as with grown adults: Do we “have” to do hard work in life, or do we “get to” do hard work?

Let’s face it. Most of us have an avoidance of anything difficult. If it’s hard, we’re out. If it’s easy, count us in.

And that’s why many don’t amount to anything even remotely near their potential.

Reframing the opportunities in life means opening up new doors of possibilities. We don’t shrink back. We don’t shy away from things. We’re in it for the long haul.

Consider salespersons, politicians and athletes. Many of them have experienced crushing defeat at one time or another. Yet, it doesn’t crush them. In some sense, it gives them added impetus to increase their game and give it all they’ve got. It’s the difference between an “Oh well…” response and a “I can do better than this!” resolution.

Which brings us to today’s quote from a top football coach who has a lot to say about many aspects of life on and off the field:Hardwork

“Winners embrace hard work. They love the discipline of it, the trade-off they’re making to win. Losers, on the other hand, see it as punishment. And that’s the difference.” ~ Lou Holtz

Some would say that it’s not the destination, it’s the journey that matters. I believe they both count. Our willingness to show up for rehearsal / practice / lab / cold calls or whatever else they call it in your industry means that we’re willing to face repetition or rejection in order to gain the results desired.

Move forward without fear, friends. Happy Monday, everyone!
