Monday Mottoes – #223

crI feel like a one-woman band, playing the kazoo, juggling plates, holding board meetings, undertaking one project after another with numerous deadlines. Interested onlookers ask me how I accomplish so much. I pose a question back to them: what are you doing between 3:00 and 5:00 a.m.? (And it certainly shouldn’t be surfing the internet….)

All joking aside, sleep is important. It helps your body to repair and regain energy.

For me, productivity comes down to three components: boundaries, energy and healthy living.

To deal with the first, boundaries mean that you know what’s your responsibility and you know what’s not. I’ve had employees who believe it’s their job to tell others what to do… delegating away their very job-!

Ummm… no.

You do your thing and I’ll do mine. There’s a reason why different people are in different crpositions in life. Children and parents. Workers and bosses. Students and teachers. If you don’t understand who you are, your priorities and planning and execution will be off-kilter. Your friends and family will feel overburdened if you dump everything on them… or you will feel burned-out if you keep taking on more and more and more.

And usually folks like that have not been assigned even one-quarter of what they assume to be their assignments….

Good fences make good neighbors, so have a few internal boundaries and know where to draw the line.

crEnergy is vital, as well. I get a lot done because I have a spring in my step and a smile on my face. Dragging through life, running late, nodding out— it doesn’t inspire confidence. If you show up all of the time, but with half of the energy, it might be better to show up half the time, but with a full tank.

Energy comes not just from the physical, but from the mental, spiritual and emotional realms. Take time to pray and think on the positives of life. Stop talking about others and do your thing with excellence. Be a builder of people and a generator of ideas.

The third ingredient to productivity comes from healthy living: running up the steps and getting the heart pumping, enjoying a big salad filled with as many veggies as you can find, changing the pace to take five minutes and watch the sun rise or sun set. This recharges your batteries.

Which brings us to today’s quote:cr

“Time only has value when it intersects with energy.” ~Jim Loehr

Today, thank God for health and strength and energy. Use your time wisely. These are the winning combinations.

Happy Monday, everyone!
