Now Putin Got Punked

thFor a long time, the media has claimed that Russian President Putin punked American President Obama, promising one thing, and then– wink-wink– doing the complete opposite. Getting punked means being tricked. Well, now President Putin is getting a taste of his own medicine.

It’s not that they’re trying to trick Putin. These are his heres-putin-riding-a-harley-davidson-to-a-meeting-with-motorcycle-enthusiasts-in-crimea-in-2010citizens and his workers, and their mistake is, they’re telling the truth. And in Russia these days, that’s pretty tricky.

Turns out that the President of Russia’s Council on Civil Society and Human Rights has a website that posted crimea-referendum-ottawa-01about the March referendum to annex Crimea. The figures went up, and then immediately came down, in a now-you-see-it, now-you-don’t sham of a shell game. The problem is, they were the real figures.

For over a month now, Russia has claimed overinflated thvotes, just like they do in their own elections. Business as usual. Of course, no official observers were allowed in Crimea… lest they observe… what they were not meant to observe.

The Kremlin asserted that 82% of the total Crimean population had voted for Russia to annex Crimea. There are two purported reports floating around from the President’s Human Rights Coucil now—revealing that putin, tsareither 15% or 22.5% of the total Crimean population voted for annexation. Hmmm… very different numbers, or as pollsters might say, quite a spread.

Who knows what might happen to these hapless helpers who accidentally posted the truth.

Currently, Crimea is calling for another referendum on Sunday, and Putin is telling them to cancel it, while ordering his troops to withdraw. Could it be that the sanctions are socking it to him? Or might it be that France is cancelling Russia’s order for massive warships? Or perhaps the U.S. and NATO are building up their own presence by the Black Sea and in the Baltics… and the Russki Prezident didn’t feel we had it in us?

Any way you slice it, Putin got punked.

Major mess-up for sure! Thanks for highlighting this. What do you feel will be the outcome for the Russian employees posting the referendum results?
