Reinventing Oneself

13617_charming_country_escape_for_twoIf you could be or do anything in life, what would it be? Might you open a cafe by the sea, live in a chalet in the mountains, direct a summer camp in the Adirondacks, trade on Wall Street, lobby on Capitol Hill, operate desert camel treks in the Mid-East, or offer walking tours in Barcelona? What would really fly your kite?  What dreams have you never given up on?

Maybe own a country inn? Renovate homes, write books, speak in conferences, open your own practice, tutor young people, stay at home with the kids, coach a team or travel the world?th

What attracts you to that particular endeavor? Is it the schedule or lack thereof? The people or the location? The stimulation and fast pace or the relaxing, laid-back pnature of it?

Given my own eclectic bent in life, I’m not sure that I’ve ever found a career or geographical setting that didn’t offer some benefits. If it’s not illegal, immoral, or unethical, I figure it’s kosher.

There are life coaches who argue that we are all called to One Big Thing. I would tend to agree that specialization is all the rage these days. The Renaissance Man or Woman might be a thing of the past, unfortunately. While I’ve always believed in being well-rounded, it could be difficult to argue that skimming the surface in several areas outweighs being a person of depth in one speciality.

Have you ever thought of going for it? Changing gears in life and heading into a new horizon?
