Russian Rumblings & Mumblings at Pravda

thThe Russian joke used to go that “There is no Pravda in Izvestiya and there is no Izvestiya in Pravda,” naming two Russian newspapers and translated, “There is no truth in the news and there is no news in the truth.” Today’s version of Pravda pretty much confirms that.

Not that the news is purely fabricated. However, it’s the strangest news usually casting America in a bad light.

Some offerings from today’s online Pravda: Texas teen gets 40 years in prison for baby drowning; izvestia.750American schoolboy detained refusing to turn his NRA shirt inside out; Largest ever drought approaches America; Former French president backs Putin and blames CIA on Ukrainian dossier; Tennessee pastor spends $60,000 on gay dating sites?; School children arrested for food fighting; are just a few of the juicy tidbits.

It could be laughable in a New York Post/ National Enquirer sort of way.

Meanwhile, other mainstream news outlets report Russia conducting threatening military exercises in the Arctic, not to even mention the Ukraine debacle. Dmitry Rogozin, overseer of the Russian defense industry, hurls his own anti-American rumblings and mumblings. Rather than fear any Russian menace, he tweets the West will “fall under the weight of Islamic State and gays”.

Hmm… is that the usual Putin Pravda shtick…?
