The Early Bird Gets the Corner Office

indexI travel a lot. And I don’t work for any airlines, lol. And it always amazes me how many people cannot get going early in the morning. They’re wandering through life half-asleep.

By “early”, I don’t mean 6:00 a.m.

A young teen was quizzing our oldest about his schedule and the mysteries of work and college. I overheard our son mentioning one day rising at 3:30 a.m., index1the next day at 4:00 a.m. and the next day at 5:00 a.m.

“If you just think of it as 3:00, 4:00, and 5:00, it’s easier to remember,” I laughed.

“Wow,” the friend took it all in. “Everyday I go to bed at 10:00 p.m. and get up at 7:00 a.m., and I’m in school by 8:00.”

th“That’s great,” we enthused. “A steady schedule is best for your body’s rhythms.”

Stability and flexibility. These two young guys will go far in life.

Many will rise for lesser events: shopping early sales the day after Thanksgiving, getting up and out for hunting or fishing expeditions, running to catch a plane. Yet, everyday life is pushed to the back burner as though it’s an option to sleep away the years.

I’ve written before about getting enough sleep and that’s a major problem in terms of health. Yet, there’s also the aspect of getting too much sleep. Researchers tell us that sleeping in till noon on the weekend does not really catch-us-up on our zzz’s.

So people, you know who you are. This weekend, either get out of bed, or get back into bed! It could affect your entire future.
