The Scotties Celebrated, Too-!

IMG_3515Misha and Grisha, the Scottish Terriers, were up to their usual antics.  On Christmas morn, they decided to sleep in till 7:00 a.m., which was quite unusual for the two who usually get me up around 5:00 (if not 1:00, 3:00, and 5:00).

Everyone showered and dressed, except for them.  They would get their holiday baths later in the day, and then run like wild banshees through the house afterwards with their silky, wet hair. So I did the sensible thing for now, and fed them breakfast since they were poking me minute by minute with their noses, as though I would forget.IMG_3537

Benedetto read from the Bible, the kids gathered around him.  The dogs lay like lambs until the presents began to be opened.  Then they roamed the room, sniffing, sniffing, sniffing.  Finally, Benedetto reached up into the tree and pulled down their small stockings.  Grisha stood on his hind legs, straining to see.

IMG_3539Misha joined in the amazement, turning in my direction as if to say, “Is that for me?  Huh?  Huh?”

He and I gave them their “bully stick” treats, low in odor and good for their teeth.  The Scotties grabbed them, Misha needing to dance around and toss his for a while before settling down, while little Grisha started chomping immediately.  They like to eat them held straight-up between their paws like a popsicle. A long while later, they finished gnawing, exhausted, but delighted.  The family had IMG_3550our festive dinner with Misha and Grisha passed out at our feet.  Until a tiny head popped up, Grisha checking to see if Benedetto might have dropped a crumb on his red sweater?

Checking, just checking.

Can this family togetherness thing go too far?  Not in their minds.
